Something special for Mom

It's 2 days before Mother's Day. Still searching for that perfect present? If your Mom is a wine lover, then a special bottle would be a terrific treat to help her relax on her day (if the wine comes with an offer from you to cook her dinner on the patio, so much the better).

A delicious choice is Eroica from Chateau St. Michelle in Washington state. This Riesling is a collaboration between Chateau St. Michelle and Dr. Loosen in the Mosel-saar-Ruwer area of Germany (known for high-quality, light Rieslings with a touch of mineral).

It's off-dry, so it has a bit of residual sugar without being too sweet. But it's zesty acidity and intense flavors of apple, pineapple and mineral keep your taste buds fascinated. A very intense, yet easy-drinking wine from a consistent producer.

Throw a pork tenderloin on the grill, baste it with some garlic, rosemary and pineapple preserves while it's cooking, and propose a toast to your one-of-a-kind Mom.
