Sip a Bloom and watch the blooms

Lots of DC-area locations continue to feature dishes and libations inspired by the blooming cherry blossoms. We're headed into the District this weekend to check out the trees--hope all this rain doesn't knock too many of them off...

It's certainly going to be a nice weekend to walk around, with sun and temperatures in the mid-60s. After seeing the blooms, head down to Old Town Alexandria, where Jackson 20 mixologist Marcus Garner has created Bloom ($11), made with Maker's Mark, elderflower liqueur, Heering cherry liqueur, fresh squeezed lemon juice and guava nectar, muddled ginger and grenadine sink. Yum.

The kitchen will also offer a 3-course cherry blossom inspired menu for $50, including pan-seared scallops with almond and cherry chutney and butter pan sauce; and braised beef cheeks with butter glazed carrots and pearl onions, pomme puree, and a dark cherry port sauce.
