Fortified Wine Class at Brabo

port cheese

On Tuesday, January 19 from 6-7 PM, BRABO by Robert Wiedmaier will host a fortified wine class, where five wines will be tasted and paired with small plates from executive chef Chris Watson.  Guests will learn how fortified wines are made, the diverse fortified wine regions of the world, and how to pair food with a host of wines, including Sherry, Port, Muscat and Madeira. Wine expert from the Country Vintner, Jason Whiteside, CSW, will lead the class.  Jason, who recently completed his Diploma through the WSET, happens to be my WSET Diploma instructor at the Washington Wine Academy. He's extremely knowledgeable and very personable, so I know this will be a great class.

Featured pairings will be:   Hidalgo "La Gitana" Manzanilla Sherry, Paired with Sardines stuffed with Tomatoes and Spinach and a Quail Egg

Blandy's 5 Year Old Verdehlo Madeira, Paired with Lobster Bisque Espresso and a Puff Pastry Fleuron

Cazes Muscat de Rivesaltes 2005, Paired with Mini Fruit Tart

Domaine du Mas Blanc Banyuls 2006, Paired with House Made Chocolate Truffles

Smith Woodhouse Late Bottled Vintage Port 1995, Paired with Stilton Cheese and Quince Paste   Cost for the class is $35 per person. Space is limited and reservations are required. The class will be held in The Liberty Room in the Lorien Hotel and Spa, 1600 King Street, Alexandria, VA 22314.   For reservations and for more information contact Martina Buenaventura at 571-482-3308 or
