Celebrate Global Negroni Week
This week is Global Negroni Week. This is definitely a celebration I can get behind, as I have so. much. love. for. Campari. The Negroni is the quintessentially perfect cocktail--perfectly balanced, with the right amount of bitter, bite and sweetness, not to mention a beautiful ruby-tinged hue. And its perfection doesn't end there: its easy-to-remember 1:1:1 ratio of equal parts gin, Campari and sweet Vermouth means it's super easy to mix up at home...as well as to teach a clueless bartender (assuming they have high quality Vermouth that's been stored in the fridge and hasn't been open on the shelf since the early 20oos...
At D.C.'s Fiola, Bar Manager Jeff Faile just added a Negroni page to his bar menu. Though he takes some liberties with some of the drinks, they are creative and oh so tasty. All are $13:
Negroni Bianco Botanist Gin, Cocchi Americano, Dolin Blanc
Negroni Sbagliato Campari, Carpano Antica, Prosecco
Negroni Aranciata # 3 Gin, Amaro Nonino, Dolin Blanc
Negroni Classico Plymouth Gin, Gran Classico, Dolin Rouge
Negroni Fragola Oxley Gin, Kina L’Avion D’Or, Strawberry Infused Dolin Blanc
Negroni Vittorio Genevieve Gin, Zucca, Cocchi Vermouth Jeff shared with me his recipe for the Negroni Bianco. It replaces Campari with Cocchi Americano, and Dolin Blanc for Dolin Rouge, resulting in a clear libation that's at once delicate, floral, and potent.
