Featured Cocktail: Otesaga Spookytini
I've received a lot of press releases over the past month about Halloween-inspired sips. I couldn't resist this one, which hails from the 104-year old Otesaga Resort Hotel in Cooperstown, New York. This former all-girls school was transformed into a hotel in 1909, and is allegedly full of paranormal activity. Guests have reported hearing voices and children playing in the hallways when no one is around, and apparitions have been spotted in different areas of the hotel. The SyFy "Ghost Hunters" even paid the resort a visit and confirmed the reports, though they noted that the ghosts appear to be friendly. (Note to self: Do NOT stay here if I ever find myself in the Cooperstown area. There is no such thing as a friendly ghost, in my opinion...)
They say the Otesaga Spookytini is designed to calm your nerves--a little liquid courage to face the dead spirits, I suppose. I like it because it combines two of fall's top flavors: apple and ginger, and has a really fun garnish.

2 oz. Stoli Gala Apple Vodka
1 1/2 oz. Ginger beer
Dash of cherry juice
Cherry-stuffed lychee that's been soaked in ginger brandy or Domaine de Canton
Add all except garnish to a cocktail shaker. Add ice, and shake until chilled. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass, and garnish with the lychee "eyeball".
